Meet Ruqaiya, a familiar face in our Atlas family – Ruqaiya started off in our hotels before moving up to a position in Central Office. I’ll let her tell the rest of the story below!
Tell us a bit about yourself and your position?
I have been with Atlas for over 4 years. I started when I was 18 as a Guest Service Assistant in the hotel and worked up to Guest Service Manager and now I work in Accounts. I met my husband through Atlas as well and we are now expecting our first child.
Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.
I’m 5ft 1, I have no specific hobbies but I LOVE food!
What was your first-ever job?
Breakfast Chef at the Alma Lodge Holyhead, North Wales.
What’s the best piece of advice you’d give a younger version of yourself?
Keep it up. Continue to listen to yourself and trust your judgment!
What is your top-tier snack?
Magic Stars
What interested you about working at Atlas Hotels?
I just wanted a job when I was 18 that worked around my carer’s commitment to my grandparents. I created great friendships and saw how Atlas promotes and encourages within and really admired this.
Who has been your biggest influence and why?
My mum. She is a single mother and has done everything for us growing up and still does.
If you could live in any country, where would you choose?
Spain for its weather and culture.
What’s one thing you did recently you are proud of?
I am a carer for my grandma who has dementia and I used to care for my grandad who was half paralysed due to a stroke, he has passed away now but it’s definitely something I have always been proud of.
